Bi-Communal Business Partnerships Grant Programme

On the occasion of the UN International Peace Day, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, organized on Tuesday, September 21 a briefing on the Bi-Communal Business Partnerships Grant Programme.

"Both the CCCI and the TC Chamber of Commerce support and promote bi-communal business cooperation, contributing in this way to the economic interdependence between the GC and the TC Community. This new grants programme is a pioneering initiative of the two Chambers and we urge the business community to take advantage of it," said Manthos Mavrommatis (President of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and Gunay Cerkez (President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce).

More specifically, the grant programme is targeted to business people and professional associations and others from the two communities who are interested in cooperating together and engage in business activities. The “Economic Interdependence” Project will make available a total amount of €192,000, with a maximum of €38,400 for each bi-communal business partnership set up. Deadline for submitting applications is 30th November 2010.

The Economic Interdependence Project is funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP-ACT). Its basic aim is to promote economic interdependence between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot Community, contributing in this way to strengthening the business and economic relations of the two communities. In this framework a number of seminars on the Green Line Trade have been organized and a bi-communal trade directory has been created, while a number of grants have been given for market research surveys carried out in the two communities.
